Children ages 4-8 are invited to enter for a chance to participate in mutton bust'n in front of the crowd. Eligible participants must be 40" - 45" tall and weigh no more than 60-lbs, fully clothed. Eligible participants must have on shoes that cover the entire foot (no spurs), wear long-sleeved shirt and pants (no skirts, dresses, or shorts) and must have a parent or guardian on site to sign a waiver. Helmets and vests will be provided to all selected riders. Riders must provide their own mouthpiece.

Registration will open February 23, 2024 and close at noon on March 8, 2024. Only twelve (12) riders will be selected by drawing at random. Application does not guarantee a ride. Riders must be available to ride during the Friday night, March 15, 2024 rodeo (7PM). All children under the age of 12 may enter the rodeo free with a paid adult if they redeem a completed coloring sheet, available here.

The selected riders’ parent/guardian will be notified by email with details of what time and where to report. In addition, the riders’ list will be posted on this webpage, once selected.

A parent and/or legal guardian must come with the child to final check in on Friday, March 15, 2024 to sign the release form. The release form must be filled out and signed prior to the ride, or the child will be disqualified. Only one parent may go with the child to the bucking chutes.

The rider with the best time and ride will be presented with a Montana Silversmiths Mutton Bust’n Champion belt buckle. Each rider will receive a Mutton Bust’n t-shirt, courtesy of Justalil' Rodeo Company.

RULES & REGULATIONS

PLEASE REVIEW AND ACCEPT OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS

Applications must be submitted to the Southeastern Livestock Exposition Rodeo by 12 Noon CDT March 8, 2024. The selected riders’ parent/guardian will be notified by email with details of what time and where to report. The selected riders’ list will be posted on the SLE website at www.slerodeo.com on the Children’s Activities under the Events tab.

Please consider your child’s personality prior to entering. If your child is a young 4-year-old, is timid/shy, or they get easily frightened mutton bust'n may not be for them. If your child is selected to ride and they balk or cry prior to the ride on rodeo night, they will be eliminated from participation.

Entries
• Entries open February 23 and close March 8 at 12 Noon.
• Only 12 riders will be selected.
• Riders must be available to ride during the Friday night, March 15th rodeo (7 PM).
o All children under the age of 12 may enter the rodeo free with a paid adult if they bring a completed coloring sheet which is available for printing at www.slerodeo.com/tickets

RIDERS (kids) may:
• Not weigh more than 60 pounds. (Weight will be verified if selected to ride.)
• Not be taller than 45 inches.
• Not be shorter than 40 inches.
• Be between the ages of 4-8 on March 15. (Proof of age may be required.)
• Must ride unassisted.

CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS FOR RIDERS
According to PRCA safety requirements, all contestants must:
• Wear long sleeve shirts (any style).
• Wear long pants (jeans are suggested). Shorts, skirts, or dresses are not permitted.
• Wear sturdy shoes (boots or closed toe/heel shoes are suggested.)
o Sandals, flip flops are not permitted.
• Not wear spurs.
• Provide their own mouthpiece.

PARENT/GUARDIAN
• A parent and/or legal guardian must come with the child to final check in on Friday, March 15 to sign the release form.
• The release form must be filled out and signed prior to the ride or the child will be disqualified.
• Only one parent may go with the child to the bucking chute.
• Parents/guardians may not put on or take off safety equipment nor open and shut chute gates.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT
The mutton bust’n stock contractor provides all the protective helmets and safety vests. Riders must provide their own mouthpiece.

AWARDS
The rider with the best time and ride will be presented with a Montana Silver Mutton Bust’n Champion belt buckle. Each rider will receive a Mutton Bust’n t-shirt.
