2026 Mutton Bust'n Rules and Regulations

Mutton Bust'n Requirements:

Age: 4 years - 8 years
Height: 40" - 45" tall
Weight: no more than 60lbs, fully clothed
Clothing: must follow PRCA safety guidelines and wear shoes that cover the entire foot (no spurs allowed), a long sleeve shirt, and full-length pants (no skirts, dresses, or shorts allowed).
Safety equipment: helmets and vests will be provided. Riders must provide their own mouthpiece.
Rider requirements will be verified on site. If the child does not meet the requirements, they will be eliminated from the competition.

Registration will open at 8AM February 27, 2026 and close at noon on March 13, 2026.
ENTER ONLY ONCE! Multiple entries for the same child will not increase your chance for participation, but instead will eliminate your child from the opportunity to compete.

In 2026, 30 riders will compete in a qualifier round of mutton bust'n before the rodeo peformance begins. The top 12 riders will get to compete in the mutton bust'n during the PRCA Rodeo performance on March 20, 2026 at 7:00PM.

The selected riders’ parent/guardian will be notified by email with details of what time and where to report. In addition, the rider list will be posted on this webpage, once selected.

The rider with the best time and ride during the PRCA Rodeo performance will be presented with a Montana Silversmiths Mutton Bust’n Champion belt buckle. Each rider selected to compete as one of the 12 riders in the PRCA Rodeo performance will receive a Mutton Bust’n t-shirt, courtesy of Justalil' Rodeo Company.
